Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche teaching on

How to Progress on the Spiritual Path in Modern Times

Date:
16/07/2011 From 10:00 until 18:00
17/07/2011 From 10:00 until 18:00

Dublin Shambhala Centre are delighted to welcome back Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche who will be giving two full days teaching at the Merrion Hotel on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of July 2011.

How to Progress on the Spiritual Path in Modern Times

Progress on the Buddhist path comes from deepening our understanding of our own mind. We need to see more clearly how our perceptions of the world are mistaken and replace them with a more accurate view. This can be done in any situation, in any place, and in any era. Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche gives simple, potent instructions on how we can awaken on the spot by going beyond illusion and connecting to our primordially enlightened nature.

"If we are to find a spiritual path and make progress, we have to find it in the situation we’re in. A divorce from this is a fantasy."
–Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

Venue: "The Wellington Room" The Merrion Hotel, Upper Merrion Street, Dublin 2.

Ringu Tulku Rinpoche to visit Dublin in April 2011

News from Bodhicharya Ireland

Ringu Tulku Rinpoche will visit Ireland to give public talks in Dublin from 6th - 10th April. (see links below)

Ringu Tulku is an internationally renowned Tibetan Buddhist Lama who is based in Northern India where he recently organised a conference on Science, Spirituality and Education in Sikkim. The guest speaker was His Holiness the Dalai Lama and over 30 eminent international professionals in the field addressed the problems of depression and suicide amongst young people.

The weekend teaching is based on a famous text called "Turning Suffering and Happiness into Enlightenment" by Dodrupchen Jikmé Tenpé Nyima (1865 – 1926). It is described as an instruction on 'Lojong', mind-training or mind transformation. The Lojong teachings, introduced to Tibet by Atisha, focus on the development of 'bodhichitta', the compassionate wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

As this is the 900th anniversary of the Karma Kagyu Lineage of Buddhism, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche will also teach from the writing of an 11th Century Tibetan Saint known as the ‘First Karmapa’, Düsom Khyenpa. This event will take place over three evenings at Kagyu Samye Dzong Buddhist Centre, 56 Inchicore Road, also in Kilmainham.

Bookings for both events can be made by calling this number : 00353 (0) 1 453 7427 or see links below.

Rinpoche’s uniquely warm and accessible style of teaching Buddhism embraces all of the spiritual traditions and inspires the cultivation of compassion and wisdom through relating to the individual’s own day to day experience.

More information can be obtained from the following Bodhicharya Ireland or Kagyu Samye Dzong and Bodhicharya International
This will be Ringu Tulku Rinpoche’s 21st teaching visit to Ireland since 1990.

Dear Friends,

We would like to let you know that Ingen Breen, a good friend of Black Mountain Zen Centre and a Zen priest and Teacher, will be resident in Dublin for the next several months.

Originally from Dublin, Ingen trained at San Francisco Zen Centre and Tassajara Mountain Monastery for over a decade, and has previously led Practice Periods at Black Mountain Zen Centre, Belfast.

No doubt many of you who know Ingen from his previous visits will appreciate the opportunity to sit togther with him again. Manifesting a calm intimate wisdom, Ingen will be leading
several Zen Sesshins in Dublin over the next few months.

Please note that as these events are not organised by BMZC you do need to contact Ingen directly to reserve a place or to have any queries answered.

All details are below. Thank you.

Ingen Breen

Ingen writes :

"Dear Friends,

Here is an opportunity to sit four sesshins in four months, in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi
(author of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind). You may sign up for as many or as few as your desire
and time permit.

Sesshins are subject to cancellation due to insufficient enrollment. Enrollment is limited to eight people.
Prior experience is preferred, please indicate in your email if you have done a sesshin before, how many
you have done and with whom.

Accommodation and food are included, but please note accommodation will be very basic, you will
most likely be sharing a room. For this reason, please say in your email whether or not you snore.

If you have not done a sesshin before, please write a paragraph describing your zen meditation practice
- if there are enough 'beginners' interested in a sesshin, I will make one of the sesshins 'for beginners'.

You may sign up for part of a sesshin. This would mean that you leave a day or two early, not that you
would arrive a day or two late. Please say in your email how many days you are planning to attend.

The sesshins will take place in north Dublin suburbia.
The fee for each sesshin is 40 euro per day.
The dates for the sesshins are below, and you can contact me with any queries or to reserve a place.

Relics of the Buddha and many masters in Dublin!

Next weekend, the Maitreya project heart shrine relics tour is visting Dublin . Details below
A unique and precious collection of more than 1,000 sacred Buddhist relics will be permanently displayed in the Heart Shrine of the completed Maitreya Buddha statue in Kushinagar. Meanwhile, it is the wish of the Spiritual Director of the Maitreya Project, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, that the collection should travel throughout the world to bring the blessings of the relics and the message of loving-kindness to people everywhere.

Most of the relics — those found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters — resemble beautiful pearl-like crystals. Buddhists believe these relics are produced as a result of the master's spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom. Since we can all develop these qualities, the relics are a reminder of our own essential nature of purity and our inner potential to manifest that.

The collection includes relics of the historical Buddha and the Buddha’s closest disciples as well as many other well-known Buddhist masters from different Buddhist traditions.

Visitors often report experiences of inspiration and healing when in the presence of the relics. While some are inspired to pray for world peace and to develop their inner wisdom, others are overcome by emotion as the powerful effects of the relics open their hearts to compassion and loving-kindness.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 13TH at 1230 is the time set for an extraordinary moment in the spiritual life of Ireland.

Mindfulness Ireland invites everyone, Buddhist or not, to share the moment.

Sr Jina is the Abbess at Thich Nhat Hanh's Plum Village Buddhist Community in France and this is a precious opportunity to spend some time with her and with eachother, walking mindfully together.

The Green itself is a beautiful, natural space in the heart of the busy city and [regardless of the weather] is an extremely peaceful and inspiring place to walk.

SOLSTICE WALK IN GLENDALOUGH

21 DEC 2008 – NOON

The ‘old heart, new heart’ mindfulness sangha would like to offer an invitation to the Buddhist Network members and their friends, to join together at noon on the shortest day of the year, to walk in peace through an ancient valley of Glendalough. We will meet at the entrance to the visitor centre, where the free car parking and toilet are provided by Duchais. The entrance is on the left, just as you enter the very beginning of the valley. Please try to be early and wrap up warm (waterproof leggings if you have them), boots are best but stout shoes are ok as terrain is easy but muddy in parts. If you bring your dog please keep on a lead and be prepared to clean up after it.

The local hotel serves grand lunches and we can expect to be back there by 2pm. The walk will include short stops and time to absorb the scenery which is always dramatic and breathtaking. The main sights include:
· The Hollywood Labyrinth,
· The board walk over the wild marshes,
· Lower lake, woods and upper lake,
· Refert Church and St. Kevin’s Cell,
· Oak forest and back to the monastic complex with round tower.

The hotel is close by and we can go in there in small groups, as people are ready. The journey from Kilmacanogue on the N11 should take 35-40 minutes. Take the Glendalough roundabout road, passing through Annamore and Laragh. St. Kevin’s bus from Dublin does not get there until 1pm!

HOPE YOU CAN COME. Ring Fiona 087-9270647 if lost.
